Opal is seeking a talented product engineer that is ready for a lot of ownership. The engineers at Opal are also product managers. That said, we don't expect you to already have product management experience because the people that use Opal are developers like you. For that reason we've decided to keep much of the product direction in the hands of engineering. We are looking for engineers that are excited to try and predict customer needs ahead of time and fill in the gaps in feature requests with a ton of autonomy. This may not be the right role for you if you are uncomfortable with any of the following:
1. You aren't comfortable with trying to predict the customer's needs yourself
2. You aren't happy with occasionally working on different parts of the stack
3. You don't want a job that will push you to learn new skillsets constantly
Responsibilities
- Help guide our overall development strategy through design, prototyping, and market research
- Report directly to our CEO [ex-Salesforce, ex-Expanse (acq. Palo Alto Networks)]
- Take product guidance and flesh out many details both technical and product-wise
- Make decisions on different vendors to use that will save the company time on execution
- Help out when customers have technical issues getting setup
- Perform regular reviews of other people's code
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience as software developer
- Excellent communication skills are critical
- Some experience in Go, Typescript, or React (not required but preferred)
- Experience choosing different SaaS solutions for previous companies
- A minimum of a bachelors in computer science or other related engineering program
- Experience working at small startups (not required but preferred)
